It's the end of January. Those of us in cold climates have to close our pools for the winter. By this point in the winter I am ready for spring and opening the pools for the new season. I tell customers that to open a nice clear pool, (or as clear as it can be) you need to put in some extra winter
algaecide
at the end of January.
This will help keep the algae (that can grow from those warm days during the winter) from turning your pool green. I've seen pools that had nothing added all winter and took off the cover, the water was dark green. It took a week or more to
clear up
and get clean. The customers that put in algaecide in mid winter had much clearer water which took much less effort to clean up.
Of course the type of cover that is used will certainly determine the overall clarity in the spring. We'll talk about the different
covers
next time. So, remember, try to put in some winter algaecide around the end of January every year and you'll be amazed at the difference in the spring.
Until next time...
