Now is the time to start getting excited about spring and all that it brings. If you live in cold weather areas you should probably start thinking about spring and when you are going to open those pools. If you have a
heater
you can open your pool as early as March. If you don't have a heater you probably will wait till May to open and then you shorten your swimming season considerably.
If you are considering a heater this year here are a few options that are out there. First you have a
solar heater
. While these have no operational costs they do have there drawbacks, if there is no sun for a couple of days you have no ability to heat the pool, also you should have a very sunny spot to install the heater for optimal heating.
Next you have the
gas heaters
these come in two types. Natural gas or Propane. Both work the same way. This will add to your gas bill but you only have to use it as necessary because you can heat this up on demand just like the thermostat in your home.
Lastly you have a
heat pump
, these work like a central AC unit does. The heater has a coil inside and a compressor. It uses freon and electricity to power the unit but does not need any gas supply. While these do have a very good efficiency rating they do have a somewhat large upfront cost.
Which ever heating style you choose the fact remains that you will extend your swimming season by at least a month or so. Both in the spring and in the fall. So lets heat things up this year...
Until next time.....
