Fire pit's are a great way to get outside and enjoy these beautiful cool night's. There are several types of Fire pits, wood burning, propane, and natural gas. Remember to have your fire pit on a non-combustible surface so we have no accident's. You can use patio blocks or pavers as a base. Remember to keep the wood dry if you use the wood burning version, wet wood will not burn. Also remember to set up your fire pit away from your home so you do not melt your siding etc.

•  Wood:

With the wood burning pits you would light these like any fireplace, use kindling to initiate the fire and you will burn firewood, being careful to mind the popping that is created with the wood fire. It is a great idea to have a screen or top over the fire to protect the people around the fire pit.

• Propane:

Or low pressure gas. These fire pits are usually designed with a simulated log fire, you can light this and the propane will burn a nice even flame. You can  relax around the propane fire pit without the popping of the wood like in the wood burning fire pit's. Keep in mind these operate on a 20 lb propane tank like that of your barbecue.

• Natural Gas:

These fire pits would have to be installed by a qualified licensed plumber as you would for the stove in your home. The big advantage with these over the others, is that you would have an endless supply of fuel for the fire pit, with no worries of running out of propane or wood. 

Many manufacturer's offer all the above designs. You just have to decide which type you prefer. I love the real wood burning pit. There are also many styles available including the chimney style. Or you can design your own fire pit and have it built to your specific needs. This is the best time of year to get outside and get that warm and cozy feeling.

Christmas In November? Get those fire pits and heaters on your list.

Today I really feel the cold starting to come to life. This time of year I tend to think about the coming holidays and the stress that I am about to endure for the next 90 days or so. My family is very big into the Christmas holiday, I love to put up the lights and decorate the house inside and out.

One of my favorite christmas songs is by the one and only CHIMPMUNKS, Christmas, Christmas time is near, yea I know it is supposed to be "HERE" but we are not that close yet. Anyway I am getting ahead of myself, I want to talk about these crisp cool nights, time to break out the Fire pit. One of the other great things to do with the family is light a fire in the fire pit and sit around the roaring flame and enjoy the night stars in the sky. There are many different fire pits to choose from but I like the real wood burning ones these put out the best heat. You could also get the propane version that is more like a coffee table and entertain all the friends and neighbors. No matter which one you choose be sure to be safe, make sure the fire pit is on a safe and fire retardant platform we don't need any fires outside the pit.

There are also some great Patio Heaters out there, I do not want to give up my outside patio just yet. You work so hard to create the best outside entertaining area you can, so get out there and enjoy it a little more with a fire pit or patio heater. My son is coming home this weekend from college and I can not wait to sit around and discuss his latest troubles with his EDUCATION. I am so proud of my family, they bring me hours of joy every day I could have a stand up comedy act with all the material I can get from my family.

Getting back to Christmas. I know it is a little early but with the economy lately you need to start early to get the best deals. There are a lot of retailers starting to put things on sale to jump start the holiday shopping season, they are worried that it may not start at all I think. Look for all the holiday adds on T.V. now already every year it gets earlier and earlier. Just go out and get 1 gift for each person every week from now through Thanksgiving and I am sure you will be done and ready ahead of time and happy that you did.

Every year we go to my brother-in-law's house for Thanksgiving and he too has a wood burning fire pit, he gets a good fire going and we all sit around and enjoy our cocktails. He also has a spa so every year we bring our suits and get in the spa at around 100 degrees, and after that we get out and sit around the fire to warm up and dry off all the while sipping our drinks and watching for the UFO's, I mean Santa getting a test run in. The bottom line is this, get yourself a fire pit or a spa and start enjoying the outdoors all year long, don't be a closed up in the house all depressed. Winter can be a great season too.

Fire Pits are Fun in Winter

Hey everyone! Its cold outside tonight, it's a perfect night for a fire pit. There are several types on the market today. I prefer the wood burning ones myself. There is nothing like sitting around a roaring fire and looking at the night stars. It's the only way I can cope with the cold winters. If wood is not for you then you can get one of the following.

 Natural gas fire pit. These require a hard plumbed natural gas like just like a grill. You can get a plumber to come in and put a tee on your gas line and run another over to where you want to have the fire pit. These are nice because you do not have to worry about having enough wood, and unlike propane, if you have paid your gas bill, you will never run out of fuel.


 Propane fire pit's. These also work off of low pressure gas (propane). Just like natural gas, you don't have to worry about the wood, but you do have to keep an eye on the propane tank. Most units will run on a standard 25 gallon tank, like the ones used on your propane grill. You can have a propane company come in and install a larger tank and run the propane line to your grill and tee off another for your fire pit.

 Outdoor patio heater. while these do not produce flame, they will heat up a large area of your patio, up to 10 feet around the heater. These also work off propane. They will produce a good amount of heat, if you just want to sit around the patio set and enjoy some company on a Saturday night.

No matter which one you choose, I'm sure you will enjoy these cool brisk nights, under the stars with your fire burning. Bring the friends over and enjoy the heat.
